The Youth Leader will direct and lead spiritual growth opportunities through educational, mission related, and recreational programs for all aged youth at Pleasant Ridge Christian Church.

Empower young people to act as disciples of Christ in our world today by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to youth ministry; specifically, fostering personal and spiritual growth in the areas of:  group building, worship, discipleship, and missions with a strong emphasis on outreach. 

Draw young people to participate in the life, mission, and work of Pleasant Ridge Christian Church

There shall be a comprehensive approach to the development and implementation of the youth program for Pleasant Ridge Christian Church. This comprehensive approach is based on the understanding of the primary task of the youth leader to:

            -have a passion and love for youth (where they are)
            -encourage youth to develop their relationship with Jesus Christ
            -provide them with opportunities for nurture and growth
            -challenge them to respond to God’s call to serve in their communities and the world
            -promote an environment for the development of socially and, spiritually sound young adults
            -be in touch with social issues concerning youth and able to relate to youth technologically and spiritually


Organize, plan, schedule, and administer youth activities including a weekly youth group for middle and high school students geared toward individual spiritual growth and increased knowledge of God's Word.
Foster the involvement of young people in the life of the Church, including service in various Church ministries and involvement in Church activities.
Organize, coordinate, and lead special events designed to build relationships and reach out to youth in the community (e.g. concerts, game nights, lock-ins, movie nights, canoe trips, etc.) as well as youth retreats, Christian events, service projects, and short-term mission trips that help youth get involved in the mission of the church. Be available for the youth in a variety of ways (i.e. lunch at school, attendance at extracurricular activities, community youth events, visitation, times of crisis, etc.).
Prepare and deliver the Children’s Sermon and the SonShine (children’s church) each Sunday.  Participate in worship services as requested by the Pastor and interpret the youth ministry to the wider congregation
Be a visible face to the Church community through weekly service attendance and other church-sponsored events.
Communicate regularly and effectively with families and the wider congregation about youth ministry events using all available resources (phone, Facebook, email, website, bulletin, newsletter, bulletin board, etc.).  Ensure communication with church staff and leadership, parents, and the congregation as a whole.
Provide spiritual guidance and counseling to the youth when needed.  Make referrals to the Pastor and appropriate Christian mentors as needed.
Coordinate and teach Confirmation classes in partnership with the Pastor and provide leadership for confirmands, mentors, and parents beyond the classroom.
Participate in the preparation and implementation of Vacation Bible School.
Attend and take an active role in the monthly Christian Education Committee.
Prepare and manage the youth ministry budget.
Consult with Pastor for spiritual direction.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Pastor.


Have a calling to Youth Ministry.  Ability to serve as a Christian role model to our youth.
Possess a Bachelor's Degree or greater.
Has previous experience in youth ministry or similar youth work; two years or more preferred.
Possess a passion and ability to teach and communicate God’s Word to youth.
Has excellent written and verbal communication skills, administrative skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills.
Possess strong leadership and relational skills, as well as the ability to work as a team with the Pastor, youth, parents, and other leaders/volunteers from a variety of ages, backgrounds, and personalities.
Is creative, energetic, and compassionate and have a passion for youth while encouraging them to have a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.
Embraces Christian discipline and Evangelical Association doctrine and theology and support the beliefs of Pleasant Ridge Christian Church.
